Диспергированные Л.п. образуют особую жидкостноупорядоченную фазу в липидном двуслое. Одно из наиболе важных свойств Л.п. заключается в их способности включать или исключать специфические белки, обладающие к ним сродством (напр., такие как киназы семейства src, Hedgehog, α-субъединицы гетеротримерных Г-белков и др.). Даже небольшие изменения состава Л.п. в результате их ассоциации могут инициировать новые сигнальные каскады.
